Introduction

The history of African American art stretches back to the 18th and 19th centuries and continues today.  African American artists have produced a rich and varied body of work that embodies a wide variety of styles and techniques.

African American Art Resources

The MSU Libraries has a wealth of information on African American art and artists.  Much of this information is found in the Fine Arts Library, and additional resources can be found in the Main Library. 

The following list of books will provide background information, lists of additional sources, biographical facts, and other useful information on African American artists and art. All are located in the art reference section of the Fine Arts Library.
