As the Federal government moved to electronic format for most of its data and informational products it experimented with different options. Especially in the late 1990's, MSU Libraries received many CD-Rom's as a result of our depository status. All the items listed here are available at the Main Library Government Documents. Education Statistics on Disk
Compilation of data from most major NCES compendia including The Digest of Education Statistics, 1996, The Condition of Education, 1996, Projections of Education Statistics to the Year 2006, Youth Indicators, State Comparisons of Education Statistics: 1969-70 to 1993-94, 120 Years of American Education: A Statistical Portrait, and Education in States and Nations.

Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study Second Followup

Provides data about education progress, attainment as an undergraduate, entry into graduate school, employment during and after college, household formation, and civic participation.
School & Beyond
The HS&B describes the activities of seniors and sophomores as they progressed through high school, postsecondary education, and into the workplace. The data span 1980 through 1992 and include parent, teacher, high school transcript, student financial aid records, and college transcripts in addition to student questionnaires.

Education Longitudinal Study
ED 1.334/2: ED8/
NELS is a nationally representative study of eighth grade students in public and private schools. Beginning with an 8th grade cohort in 1988, NELS:88 provides trend data about critical transitions experienced by young people as they develop, attend school, and embark on their careers. Data were collected from students and their parents, teachers, and high school principals and from existing school records such as high school transcripts. Cognitive tests (math, science, reading, and history) were administered during the base year (1988), first follow up (1990), and second follow up (1992). Third follow up data collected in 1994. All dropouts were retained in the study.

Postsecondary Student Aid Study:
NPSAS is a comprehensive study that examines how students and their families pay for postsecondary education. It includes nationally representative samples of undergraduates, graduate and first-professional students; students attending public and private less-than-2-year institutions, community colleges, 4-year colleges, and major universities. Students who receive financial aid as well as those who do not receive financial aid participate in NPSAS.
