Many of the resources listed throughout this guide contain downloadable data files.  Following are selected archives and collections that contain data set files.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
Contains a number of studies on the subject of agriculture. For example:

Great Plains Population and Environment Data: Agricultural Data, 1870-1997. The agricultural data included in this collection consist of a single data file for each agricultural census year between 1870 and 1997 that includes selected material compiled as part of the United States Agricultural Census.

Southern Farms Study, 1860. This study presents 1860 data on population and farm production in 5,228 farms located in 405 major cotton-producing counties in the South.

International Food Policy Research Institute Datasets
Includes geospatial data, household and community surveys, institutional surveys, regional data, social accounting matrices and Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators.

USDA Agricultural Research Service Datasets
Data on chemistry and biochemistry, food and nutrition, genetics, germplasm, natural resources and systematics.
