Creating Stable Links to Electronic Articles: Science Direct (Elsevier) and Cambridge

This guide describes how to create stable links to articles licensed by the MSU Libraries.

Creating Stable links in Science Direct/Elsevier/Cambridge

Databases and journals in Science Direct/Elsevier/Cambridge use a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to create stable links. Retrieve your article and locate the DOI. Normally the DOI is located on the full text or summary page but is not visible on the pdf (see image below).

To create the stable link, begin with "http://ezproxy.msu.edu/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/" and then add everything after "doi" in your article. The stable link for the article shown above would be: http://ezproxy.msu.edu/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.acpain.2009.07.003.

Once the stable link has been created, you may be asked to select which website you want to use to view the article (see example below).
