It is important to understand the different types of publications available to you when you are conducting research.

  • Popular magazines articles are typically written by journalists to entertain or inform a general audience.
  • Scholarly articles are written by researchers or experts in a particular field. They use specialize vocabulary, have extensive citations, and are often peer-reviewed.
  • Trade publications may be written by experts in a certain industry or others working in that particular industry. They are not considered scholarly sources as they share general industry news and trends rather than advanced research and are not peer-reviewed. They are still great sources to consider when looking for industry trends or other industry specific information.
