MSU Trial Gardens
"In 1978 MSU was asked by All-America Selections and professional seed producers to begin participating in the network of 28 floral trial garden scattered across the unites States, and Lowell Ewart took responsibility for the MSU trial garden." (Dennis, p. 77) The purpose of our trial gardens is to grow and evaluate new (and sometimes old!) species and cultivars of a wide range of plants under our mid-Michigan climatic conditions. Our growing conditions here are characterized by cold winters and cool springs followed by warm, sometimes hot humid summers.
