Different government jurisdictions are responsible for different functions and provide different types of information about a city or community. Some of this information may require a fee or not be available online.
City Governments typically provide city council and commission agendas, minutes, meeting records. Also city budgets, property (and other city) tax information, city license and permit information, district court information and possibly information on city events. Example: City of East Lansing
County Governments typically collect and publish property tax information, birth,death and marriage records, local election and campaign finance information (County Clerk), county court records. Example: Ingham County
School Districts typically have school board meeting agendas and minutes.
State Government web sites typically offer aggregated information from local areas on topics such as elections, budgets, education (including test results), taxation, crime, recreation, business, state government. Usually organized by department so use the search feature.
Examples: Student Assessment from the Michigan Department of Education includes test scores and related information for individual schools.
