Your creative research project

One of the requirements for your creative research project is to incorporate "An artistic primary resource from MSU Special Collections (song, music, poem, visual art work, play, etc.) that serves as a point of contrast, critique, punctuation of the other material."

This guide will help you find relevant materials. I recommend that you START by deciding on your primary resource. Or at least, start looking for that element early. Two reasons:

  • Special Collections is open shorter hours (M-F 9-5, Sun 1-5) than the rest of the library
  • Finding historical/theoretical readings and newspaper articles on a specific issue is sometimes easier than finding artistic work on the same issue. This is because it's easier to describe what nonfiction writing is "about" than with artistic work. So, the content summary for books and articles will tend to be more detailed and thus more searchable.
