Year One Intensives

The below section describes the library content covered in Year One DNP/PhD Intensives week sessions and also provides the documents shown/provided in those sessions.

FALL SEMESTER
Library Session 1

  • Orientation: Library Resources & Services.
  • Beginning Searching/Search Tips: truncation, limits, “-“, AND/OR,   etc.
  • CINAHL & PubMed Searching
  • Searching Homework (to be handed in at Library Session 2).

Library Session 2

  • Saving CINAHL and PubMed Searches
  • EndNote 1: Introduction to EndNote.

SPRING SEMESTER
Library Session 1

  • Search Tips Review & Activity.
  • Intermediate Searching (CINAHL & PubMed) – Hands On Searching.
  • Introduction to Subject Headings.

Library Session 2

  • Continuation of Subject Headings
  • Primary vs. Secondary Literature.
  • Explanation of Systematic Reviews & Searching in Cochrane.
  • EndNote 2: Intermediate EndNote.

Year Two Intensives

The below section describes the library content covered in Year Two DNP/PhD Intensives week sessions and also provides the documents shown/provided in those sessions.

FALL SEMESTER
Library Session 1

  • Quick Review of Previous Semesters.
  • Subject Heading Searching Continued.
  • Beyond CINAHL and PubMed Part I (ProQuest Databases: PsycINFO/ERIC/Sociological Abstracts, &, HaPI).
  • Searching Homework (to be handed in by Session 2).

Library Session 2

  • EndNote 3: Open EndNote Workshop.

SPRING SEMESTER
Library Session 1

  • Quick Review of Previous Semesters.
  • Advanced Searching.
  • Beyond CINAHL and PubMed Part II: Embase, Nursing Reference Center.
  • Grey Literature

Optional/Recommended

  • Individual/One-on-One Consultations.
