Gender Differences in Recognition for Group WorkBy Heather Sarsons, Klarita Gërxhani, Ernesto Reuben, and Arthur Schram, January 2021, Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 129, No 1.
This paper studies whether co-authorship matters differently for tenure for men and women. The authors find that conditional on quality and other observables,
men are tenured similarly, regardless of whether they coauthor or solo-author. Women, however, are less likely to receive tenure the more they coauthor. The results are
best explained by gender and stereotypes influencing credit attribution for group work.
