Starting January 25th, 2023, the National Institutes of Health requires researchers to prospectively plan for how scientific data will be preserved and shared through submission of a Data Management and Sharing Plan.

Additionally, in August of 2022, the Office of Science Technology and Policy issued guidance to make federally funded research available without delay. This guidance goes into full effect by the end of 2025, with OSTP working with associated federal grant-making bodies to update guidance, public access policies, and data sharing plans.
