Collection Development Policy Statement: South & Southeast Asian Studies

Particular Collection Focuses

  • Countries of particular focus for the collection include Pakistan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, though material from other countries is also collected when it corresponds with campus needs and areas of subject interest.
  • Subject areas of particular focus beyond those most common to Area Studies include water, energy, and food; agriculture; climate change; migration, labor, and development; South Asian religions; Urdu literature; the Mekong region; and 1965 in Indonesian history and memory.
  • Historically underrepresented and marginalized voices, including indigenous voices, are emphasized across all subject areas.
  • As with the Asian Studies collection, the South and Southeast Asian studies collection is multidisciplinary in nature, collecting material on geography, society, economics, education, politics, and other areas beyond history and literature.
