Tips for Searching for Books

The MSU Libraries has thousands of works about World War II and its cultural impact. Most of these can be found in the D section in the basement, specifically D731-D838, and you are certainly invited to browse the collection.

If you would like to find World War II works in the catalog first, and then on the shelves, try: World War II AND (your topic). For example: World War II AND homefront. Or, World War II AND women. Or, World War II AND Japanese Americans. Keeping your search broad will help you identify a book in the catalog on your topic. Once you find it on the shelves, many more books on your topic, with varying levels of specificity and focus, will be shelved around it for you to browse.

Please keep in mind that if your topic has many facets, you might eliminate some good book options by including them all in a single catalog search. Err on the side of being too broad and then narrowing your search results from there.

As always, please reach out any time for help searching!
