Erickson Hall

  • Memorial plaque honoring Walter French - (west entrance parking lot side, mounted on the wall) - The bronze plaque designed by Fredricka Goodwin of Ypsilanti Michigan. The plaque includes a portrait of Walter French flanked by agricultural motifs.  The plaque was presented to Michigan State University circa 1927 by the Michigan Association for Advancement off Agricultural Teaching and was funded by donations.

Text of the plaque is:

"In Memory of Walter H. French

Jan. 28, 1862 – Jan. 1, 1924

The Pioneer Of Vocational Agricultural Education

Presented By Michigan Association For Advancement Of Agricultural Teaching"

  • Below the bronze plaque is a small plaque.  The text of the plaque is "Walter French was the first professor of education and head of teacher training at MAC serving from1908 to 1924.  During his career he was deputy state superintendent of public instruction and first director of vocational education.  He provided inspiration and leadership in teacher education on this campus for almost sixteen years."
