Access point to U.S. Federal Executive Branch datasets. Note that data is grouped in three ways: The "Raw" data catalog allows limiting by .shp or .kml formats. Tools Catalog leads to agency tools or agency web pages that allow you to mine data sets. Geodata catalog has miscellaneous geo-referenced data.

C-CAP Land Cover Atlas
An interactive interface and downloadable datasets. These nationally consistent, raster based products provide individual dates of land cover inventories. Up to 25 classes of land cover are mapped. Data is based upon 30 meter Landsat imagery. Michigan datasets are available for 1975, 1985, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2010, and 2016.

Free downloadable GIS data. Click on "GIS Data Depot" then "Download GIS Data" then click on the first letter of the name of the nation you are interested in. You will need to create a free Geocommunity account. This is a commercial site that offers many free data layers, but is also willing to take money from you to allow faster downloads. Most data layers are US Government agency origins, such as Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs), Digital Orthophotos (DOQs), NWI wetlands, NAIP orthoimagery.

ProQuest Statistical Insight
Indexes and abstracts statistical publications from the US government, state governments, international organizations, and professional associations. Includes ProQuest Statistical Datasets and the ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the U.S. [It is the WWW version of 3 print indexing sources: American Statistics Index (ASI), Index to International Statistics (IIS), and Statistical Reference Index (SRI).] Links to selected full-text materials are provided, some in spreadsheet format. The Library owns almost all the materials indexed in ProQuest Statistical Insight.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) GIS
Create, view, query and print customized maps showing FCC licensing data, regulated towers and market area boundaries. These maps can be extremely helpful in conducting analysis on current service and need/feasibility studies for new services.
The download files are provided in shapefile format which is compatible with software produced by ESRI, Inc.
School District Data
Display school district data in their interactive viewer. Click on "Map Tools" to Get the spatial data behind the map in ESRI shapefile format.
Census Boundary Files
Cartographic Boundary files are available in shapefile format for the 2010 Census, Census 2000, and selected geographies for other years.
National Hydrography Dataset
US Geological Survey makes available the National Hydrography Dataset is 3 styles: High resolution, Medium Resolution, and Low Resolution. These are all downloadable as geodatabases.
Tree Species Range Maps from "Atlas of United States Trees"
Maps of the ranges of tree species in North America compiled by Elbert Little, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, and others (see references below) were digitized for use in USGS' vegetation-climate modeling studies. These digital map files are available as maps in PDF format and also as shapefiles for download.

United States Interagency Elevation Inventory
High resolution, high accuracy datasets are often publicly available, but scattered in many places. This tool serves as a central index for available topographic and bathymetric data sets, provides information about the data sets, and directs you to further information.
