Book Searching

Searching for Books Flowchart

Try the Library Catalog

If you know the title or author of the book you want, the Library Catalog is the easiest place to search. Change the drop down menu to Title or Author.

Advanced Catalog Search

NOTE: the Library Catalog has more than books - you can also search for movies, CDs or journals by name.

Try SearchPlus

If you are hoping to explore what the library has on your topic, SearchPlus can also be useful. Keep in mind that you'll find more than just books (SearchPlus contains most things in the library, and your results will probably contain a lot of articles, rather than books). You can use the filters on the left side of the screen to narrow your search to just books.

What if my book is not there?

If the book is CHECKED OUT, try requesting the book from another library by clicking the Get It button:

  • Request the book through ILLiad. We'll find the book for you, and send it to the Circulation desk for you to pick up.
  • Search U-Borrow to see if the book is available from our 13 partner research libraries and have the book delivered to the Main Library for you
  • Search MeLCat to see if the book is available from other Michigan libraries and request it be delivered to the Main Library for you
