Purpose or Scope of Collection

A. Curricular, Research and Programmatic Needs:

The MSU Libraries supports the research and teaching needs of faculty and students through the doctoral level in Park, Recreation and Tourism resources. MSU offers degrees in park, recreation and tourism through the Department of Community Sustainability in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Faculty are highly active and successful in securing grant funding for research in all areas of parks, recreation and tourism. Research areas, topics, and methodologies vary widely, from divers aspects of tourism, land and watershed management of recreational areas, to economic impacts of agri-toursim and nich markets. Research data is both quantitative and qualitative in nature.

B. History of the Collection/Existing Strengths and Emphases

Michigan State University began and remains agriculturally focused. Parks and recreation are a part of that focus.
