Citation Style Guides

Once you have a list of books and journal articles, you will need to cite them in the required format.  Listed below are two of the more common humanities citation styles:

Using Modern Language Association (MLA) 2009 Format A lengthy online guide for help using the MLA format, available from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab.

Chicago Manual of Style The online version of the Chicago Manual of Style, available from the MSU Libraries.

Citation Management Software

Citation management software programs help you keep track of and organize your lists of journal articles, books, and other resources. 

EndNote and EndNote Web Information on EndNote bibliographic software, including a link to free training sessions held at the library.

Zotero An online tool for citation management, formatting, and collaboration. Includes a link to free training sessions.
