Ways to Get Help

1. Contact a Librarian

You can visit a librarian at the Reference Desk in the Main Library, ask a question via the 24/7 Ask a Librarian chat , or reach out directly to a subject specialist librarian

2.  Contact Sara with a specific question

You can make an appointment by e-mailing Sara at smiller@msu.edu

Getting a Book

When you find a book through the library's website, you will see a call number which tells you where the book is located in the library.   The example record below shows you the call number ((e.g. E302.5.E45 2000), the branch the library is located in (e.g. Main Library) and the item's status (e.g. Available).

If the book's status is "Available", you can find it in the library using the call number and the orange "Map It" button (click that for a map of where the book is in the library).

If the book's status is anything other than "Available", click the purple "Get It" button for a list of ways to get the book.

Once you have the book, take it to the check out desk on the first floor.  You'll need your MSU ID to check it out.  The checkout period is 6 months and you can renew a book online by logging into your library account.  You're limited to 5 online renewals before you need to bring the book into the library to renew in person.
