Careers in Accounting and Finance

FAME

Most undergraduate business programs are based on a foundation of what are known as FAME subjects: Finance, accounting, management and economics. As a result, finance and accounting tenets often overlap.

Finance professionals create value by managing capital as optimally as possible. Most are responsible for making predictions (looking forward) and providing actionable insights to firms or individuals.

Specializations: Financial planning, corporate finance, insurance, investment banking, etc.

 

Accounting professionals record, maintain, and report on a firm's financial records. Most are responsible for looking backward to ensure that all financial transactions, ledgers, and account balances are complete and accurate.

Specializations: Auditing, tax planning, controller, etc.
