MSU & ELPL BioBlitz!: Home

Use this guide to find more information on the MSU & ELPL BioBlitz, along with other helpful resources that connect you to identification resources on campus!

Welcome!

Thank you for joining the East Lansing Public Library and Michigan State University Bioblitz!

We are thrilled to have you join us in identifying some of the great species that live in the East Lansing and Lansing area. This BioBlitz is designed to get a snapshot of all the animals and organisms that are in our area. By understanding the species that live here now, we can compare to species that have come before and will live here in the future.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the library listed below!

What Is Citizen Science?

Community science (otherwise known as "citizen science") is science that is conducted by the public in conjunction with research scientists. It helps scientists gather data and information about the world (and the universe!) that they wouldn't have the time or the help they would otherwise have. By combining our efforts and our passions, we can discover new patterns in the world around us that we wouldn't have been able to find before!

Spend some time outdoors and help us better understand our world!

How You Can Help

During our BioBlitz, we encourage you to upload as many observations as you can to the iNaturalist project we've started: ELPL BioBlitz

After the BioBlitz ends, we will start analyzing the data and species you've collected with the rest of the ELPL/MSU community and use that data to get a snapshot of all the organisms in the area.

Make sure to come back and visit to find out more!
