International Press Organizations

These are generally non-profit organizations concerned with protecting press freedom and journalists internationally. Many monitor on a daily basis incidents related to censorship and press freedom in individual countries. Many produce annual reports on the state of journalism and media in individual countries, and conduct research on related issues.

Committee to Protect Journalists
An independent, nonprofit U.S. organization provides updated news and an annual country-by-country worldwide survey titled Attacks on the Press in ....
Freedom House
"...an independent non-governmental organization that supports the expansion of freedom in the world." Publishes the annual Freedom of the Press publication with individual country reports. Also includes Freedom on the Net
International Press Institute
"...global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists, ... dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, the promotion of the free flow of news and information." Produces the annual World Press Freedom Review which reviews press freedom regionally and in specific countries. Also offers news, longer articles and in-depth reports on issues and countries.

IWMF : International Women's Media Foundation - Home
Founded in 1990, the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is dedicated "to strengthening the role of women in the news media worldwide as a means to further freedom of the press." Includes some research studies and reports on women and the media internationally.
