MC 202: Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln (Lorch)

Spring 2025

Browse the Stacks!

One of my favorite ways to research is to explore the print collection of books by browsing the shelves.

A quick search on the library website shows me many books with the search term "Frederick Douglass" start with the call number E449.D75. The E call numbers can be found in the basement on the west wing, and the Frederick Douglass books will be grouped together.

The same search for "Abraham Lincoln" shows me the call numbers start with E457 - very nearby!

Browsing the stacks will reveal reference sources (biographies, encyclopedias), primary sources (speeches, letters, newspaper clippings), and secondary sources (essays, criticisms, analyses).

Find Biographies

A biography or autobiography of your chosen world leader can provide necessary information and context for your research.

To find one, navigate to the library catalog (also found using the Books/Media link below the search bar on the library home page).

In one search field, enter your leader's name. In another, enter the word "biography" and search. If none appear on your search results list, try the search again without the term "biography."

If you find a print version, make note of the call number and locate the books on the shelves. If you find an eBook, open and download it.
