Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Information Resources

The Center for Advanced Microscopy, a Michigan State University Core Facility, is the central microscopy laboratory for the Michigan State University Campus. We provide MSU researchers with formal graduate level instruction and 24/7 access to scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes, laser capture microscopes, and confocal laser scanning microscopes. We support all research disciplines including newly emerging areas in nanotechnology.

The mission of NanoMSU.org is to facilitate nanotechnology research and education by publicizing MSU's research expertise, facilities, and educational programs, providing a central point of contact for off-campus inquiries, distributing nanotechnology-related information of general interest, and encouraging new synergistic collaborations.

The Composite Materials and Structures Center is one of the foremost facilities for the study of polymer composites and is internationally recognized for its contributions to composite science and engineering. The faculty of the College of Engineering along with the full time staff researchers of the CMSC have expertise in processing, design and optimization, materials science, nanocomposite technology, structural analysis, surface science, failure analysis, and more.

Chemical Engineering and Materials Science offers two excellent degree programs to transform Spartans into innovative engineers with a foundation of mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences and engineering science. Students have access to outstanding laboratories for biochemical engineering, composite materials processing, and characterization of metals, ceramics, and polymers. New opportunities abound in microelectronics, biomaterials, environmentally friendly materials and nanotechnology.

The Micro and Nano Engineering Facility is located in room C16E in the Division of Engineering Research Building. This is an 800 square foot facility that contains a number of class 100 work areas, and an overall class of approximately 10,000 environment.

Since 2003, CMW has operated in tandem with Michigan State University on applied research and development initiatives across CMW’s core competences, on both government- and industry-sponsored projects. MSU’s College of Engineering and College of Natural Science collaborate closely with CMW on both research projects and student training and for next-generation materials manufacturing

The PEL provides a set of services including gene cloning, computer-controlled fermentations, fermentation optimization and scale-up, cell lysis, protein assay, protein purification and final product freeze drying.
