Social Work Resources - After Graduation: Michigan State University Library Resources

MSU Resources

You can still use the library after you graduate!

Alumni of MSU can request a Community Borrower Library Card if they

  • Still live in Michigan

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Have no outstanding fines or bills from a previous MSU library Account

To request a Community Borrower Card you must stop by the Circulation Desk in the main library and present your Michigan Driver's License with a valid Michigan address.  That day you may check out only two items, but once the card is mailed to your address, you will be able to check out up to 25 items.  You must present a valid photo ID every time you check out item(s) from the library.

Checking out Books

Community Borrowers can check out books as normal.  The library catalog is available freely on the internet.  If you need assistance looking up a book, feel free to come to the Reference Desk on the First Floor of the Main Library. Be sure to bring a valid photo ID every time you check out books.

If a book is not owned by the library, you can still access InterLibrary Loan services through MelCat

Accessing Databases and Journal Articles

Many articles are freely available on the web through websites such as JSTOR and Google Scholar and in Open Access Journals.  However, you may want to use the library's resources to access articles that are not free.

To access the Library's Databases, use the "Selected Resource" Computers across from the Reference Desk on the First Floor of the Main Library.

If you aren't able to come to the library, and are a Michigan resident, you can use the MeL Electronic Databases: https://mel.org/libraries/general
