Geological & Earth Sciences Research Guide: Indexes to Journal Articles & Pubs

Best Indexes

  Linking to Online Text

Most journal indexes, such as GeoRef, GeoBASE, and Web of Science include a "Find Text @ MSU" link next to each citation creating a direct link to MSU subscriptions. The 'Find Text @ MSU' link will attempt to pull up the article full text online.  If that is unavailable, you will be guided to a catalog search to discover the journals call number in the library.  If MSU Libraries doesn't subscribe to the journal, or at least not for the year you want, then you will be guided to an Interlibrary Loan Form. Online subscriptions on the subjects of Earth and Environmental Sciences may also be browsed at Our Electronic Journals page.

Finding Paper Journals

All journal subscriptions at MSU Libraries will have a record in the Online Catalog .  You will see separate entries for the paper subscription to the journal and the online subscription to the general.  They will appear like this:

Example:
Geophysical Research Letters
Geophysical Research Letters Online

Within each entry see which years MSU owns.  Note also the call number.  Bound paper journals are interfiled with the books in the library stacks.  the locations for each call number are listed in each elevator and on the green "Call Number Locations" flyer.  Generally, geology journals are shelved in the far west end of the main library Ground Floor.  Journals can change names or may otherwise be represented in the library catalog over several records.  If you have trouble finding what you need, please Ask a Librarian.
