Gender in Modern Europe: Find Books in the Online Catalog

Originally created to use with a HST 201 course on this subject. Spring semester, 2023

Find Books in the Online Catalog

We have a new online catalog system in academic year 2022-2023. It doesn't all work very well yet and will have a new "interface" (the appearance of the search form) after spring semester, 2023 concludes.

Start from the Libraries Home Page

Below the general search box, click on Books and Media to search for physical, paper/cloth bound books or physical media, such as DVDs. Type the title, author, or keyword of the book if you know it  into the top and/or succeeding search boxes.  You can leave the type of search set on "Select a field (optional)" or change it to title, author, etc. Before you click on the search button, scroll down about half way and click a check mark into the box on the left next to the words Catalog only.  Click search.  To revise your search or do a new search, be sure to click "Clear" and then click on "New Search" at top left in the green bar.  There are many ways to refine your search, but they don't all work very well yet.

Click on E Books and Journals to search if you know that the thing you seek will be, or you hope it will be, in electronic form.  We have many e books and journals in electronic form.  To revise your search or to do a new search, click on E Books and E Journals in the green bar at the page top.

Watch little You Tube video on How to Find a Book.  Scroll down about half way and look on the left side of the page.

You can try out  the new search interface that will be coming at the end of spring semester, 2023.  Feedback/suggestions link.

Here are some possible keywords to use in searches in our online catalog, which might be combined with place names, such as countries or big cities, or nationalities (Europe, European, Britain, British, England, English, London; France, French, Paris, Germany, German, etc).  It is by no means a comprehensive list and only has English language words.   Think about what words you might find in the title of a book or article.  Remember to add an asterisk (*) to pick up additional endings of words.  If you find a book in the catalog that looks good, notice its subject headings and try clicking on those to find more books.
