Collection Development Policy Statement: Makerspace Books

Analysis of the Subject Field

A. Chronology of the Subject: Emphasis/Restrictions

Many of the Makerspace technologies and methods subjects require up to date books, and so the focus of the collection is on the most contemporary books. There are exceptions to this contemporary focus (for example: books on the topic of sewing).

B. Languages of Resources Collected; Exclusions/Emphasis/Translations

The primary language of resources collected will be English. Nearly all patrons working in the Makerspace are conversant in English.

C. Geography of the Subject; Emphasis, Restrictions

Geography is not relevant to the subject matter of the collection, which focuses on methods.

D. Format of the Resources Collected; Restrictions, if any

Books purchased for the Makerspace are meant to be located in the space as reference when they are not checked out. To fulfill this purpose, they must be paper.

E. Date of Publication of Resources Collected; Emphasis, If Any

With the exception of certain subjects (such as sewing or other topics which don’t rely on changing software or technology), books within the past five years should be collected. See the chronology statement above.
