One of the hardest things about research is that you're going into the unknown; you can't know what answers you'll ultimately find, and often you're not really sure what you should be looking for at first. This is normal! Even very experienced researchers feel that way when they start a new topic or project. The trick is to really to accept that for a while you won't know what you're doing and trust that at some point you will know. That's just how the research cycle works.
