Collection Development Policy Statement: Accessibility and Disability Studies

General

The ADS collection follows the MSU Libraries' general collection policies for gifts, preservation, and accessibility. ADS collection practices are informed by the MSU Libraries' core collection values.

The Michigan State University Libraries collections librarians build and maintain collections of information resources to support the strategic plan and vision of the university in accordance with the Libraries Strategic Plan.

Multiple copies

  • Items that were purchased in physical format may be purchased electronically.
  • Purchasing multiple copies of monographs may be considered if the only available copy is on Reserve and/or in Special Collections.
  • Replacement items may be purchased for high-demand or important monographs or journal issues if they are not available electronically.
  • Decisions to replace materials that are missing or damaged are made on a case-by-case basis.

Outdated materials

  • Materials that have not been used for an extended period and/or were published before a certain date may be removed from the collection or moved into Remote Storage.
  • In most cases, materials that may be considered outdated or offensive should not be removed from the Collection. Please see MSU Libraries' Policy on Challenges to Materials in the Collection for more details.
