Visiting Scholars: Local Travel Information: Where to stay

Local hotels

The MSU travel office maintains this list of local hotels which have "fulfilled the requirements to be recommended by Michigan State University."

Within this list, the following properties are within a 10-15 minute walk of the MSU Main Library:

  • Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center
  • Wild Goose Inn Bed & Breakfast
  • East Lansing Marriott

Please note that the Candlewood Suites Hotel at the Henry Center, although technically "on campus," is 2.5 miles from the Main Library.

Dormitory housing

Rooms for visiting scholars are often available at Owen Hall, a graduate student dormitory about 10 minutes' walk from the Main Library. Rooms may not be available during all summer dates. To arrange a room, please contact the MSU Housing Services Conference Office (517-353-9300.)

Please note that dormitory rooms have no air-conditioning, although common areas have some air conditioning. Monthly average temperatures for East Lansing, Michigan.

Parking

If you must bring a car to campus, you will need to pay for visitor parking by the hour in gated lots or at metered spots. The MSU parking office does not issue short-term parking permits; they are only sold by the semester.

The closest parking to the Main Library is Lot 62W, just north of the MSU Stadium. To reach the Main Library, walk north across Red Cedar Road to the sidewalk running along the Red Cedar River. Turn right and follow the river about 500 feet to the pedestrian bridge across the river. The bridge leads directly to the south entrance of the Main Library. Special Collections is the glass-walled area on your left.
