Home Owners Loan Association (HOLC) maps made in the early 20th Century of about 30 US cities, marking neighborhoods by color on a desirability scale. Local lenders used this demarcations in making decision on granting mortgages which resulted in a strengthening of ethnic and economic segregation. This image was made by scanning the original held at the Library of Congress. The base map is dated 1934, but the date of the added color is not known.
