Abstract: This chapter introduces the importance of writing a research proposal and discusses the elements of a good proposal for scientific inquiry, in the context of leisure, recreation and tourism research. It stresses that research proposals must contain extensive literature reviews and offer convincing support of a need for the research study being proposed. It covers several steps of writing a proposal. The areas such as identification of a research topic, conducting a relevant literature review on the topic, developing propositions and hypotheses, data analysis and designing data collection instruments, reporting and citation styles and related issues are also introduced as elements of writing a research proposal. A short proposal example is also provided.
