Dissertations done at most colleges and universities in North America can be located using Proquest Dissertations and Theses Global. Dissertations can be searched by author, title, subject (keyword), advisor, and granting institution. Online search help is available for this database. Extensive abstracts are provided for most records. The database covers 1861 to the present. Display options for each entry include the bibliographic citation, citation +abstracts, 24-page previews (1997 to the present), and full text downloads (1997to the present) for dissertations done at MSU and other Big Ten Universities. MSU Libraries does not normally purchase copies of dissertations from other institutions but many institutions are willing to loan copies of their dissertations. Copies of dissertations from other institutions can usually be obtained through the Library's Interlibrary Loan Services.
